ROLC is a disciple-making church. We meet regularly to build loving relationship with God and with one another, study God’s word, pray and share life journey together for the purpose of spiritual growth.
Why discipleship? As a follower of Jesus, it is important to ask. First and foremost, it is Jesus’s call for anyone who wants to follow him (Luke 9:23). He must die to himself and take up the cross daily. This is the essence of discipleship. There are at least two meanings implied here. For the early disciples, it meant that they literally need to walk the path of Jesus, that is the path of crucifixion for the gospel sake. Another implication is that one has to die to his own desire, selfish ambitions, pursue of things and pledge full allegiance to the Lordship of Jesus. They now only live for Jesus. It is the essence to follow Jesus truthfully.
Secondly, why discipleship? Jesus wants us to be fishers of men (Matthew 4:19). Not only He called us to follow Him totally but He wants us to impact lives and bring others in His Father’s Kingdom. God’s Kingdom not only focus on God’s redemption but is essentially about the multiplication of disciples and transformation of lives. God’s will is fulfilled and God is pleased when we are changed into the likeness of Jesus, have faith in Him and helping others to do so. Therefore, our goal to be part of a discipleship group is to be a Christ’s disciple, conform to the image of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29), grow into spiritual maturity (Hebrews 6:1) and be fishers of men.
