About ROLC
River of Life Community Church was officially registered on 19th November 2002. The work was started after the Council and members at Bethesda Frankel Estate Church had expressed interest in starting a ministry at Sengkang Housing Estate. We thank Bethesda Frankel Estate Church for praying for us, graciously commending us as an autonomous church and the partial financial support given to us to help us through the first two years of our ministry in Sengkang.
With God’s help, two cell groups were formed by John Lee in 2001. By July 2002, we had about 35 adults and children in the cells. We then sensed the need to start our first Worship Service on 29th July 2002. By September 2002, the fortnightly Worship Services at John & Kathleen Lee’s apartment were packed to capacity and the Sunday school classes were held at the void deck. In October 2002, the Lord led us to rent a terrace house along Punggol Road with the consent from the owner of the house to hold our weekly Worship Services and Sunday school classes.
Since relocating to the terrace house at Sengkang, our attendance had risen from 40 to 97. Initially, we had 16 children but in 2003, the Lord had blessed us with 35 Sunday School children. During that time, we had 61 baptized members of which 30 were transferred members from BFEC. God is good. From time to time, He brought more workers into our church to help us.
In June 2004, we rented a bungalow at Ponggol Twenty-Fourth Avenue. Despite the distance, our weekly attendance rose to more than 100. Two new ministries, the Youth Ministry and the PHD (Prayer/Healing/Deliverance) Ministry, were then birthed at the end of 2004. It was wonderful to see how the Holy Spirit was at work in our midst healing people and setting them free from bondages.
In 2004, the Lord impressed upon our hearts to purchase our present bungalow as our Mission Home and a base for River of Life Community Church. Our faith had certainly been put to the test and praise God, He cleared every obstacle for us and in 3 months, the full amount of $1.8 million was raised. We are always thankful to God and to our members for the commitment of raising more than 90% of the Faith Building Fund. Truly, ROLC Church Mission Home is an awesome testimony of God’s faithfulness. A “Thanksgiving and Dedication Service” was held on 1st May 2006 to bear testimony of God’s goodness and faithfulness to us as a church.
After much waiting upon the Lord, ROLC Church finally appoints our first 3 elders to the task of overseeing the flock. Besides the pastoral responsibilities, Elder Ben Ng oversees the administration of the church; Elder Song Siow Hui sees to the pastoral needs of the church and Elder Raymond Kang co-ordinates the worship ministry of our church. All three were officially commended before the Church and our Lord on 22nd May 2005. We thank God for the elders and the Council members for their labour of love for the Lord and for providing stability to the church.
Our youths and children were growing numerically soon after we moved into our new building. Praise God for sending Youth Pastor Rachel Ong in July 2007. Together with our committed adult leaders, she oversees the ministries of the children and the youths. The Youth Group was then named ‘LIVEWIRE!’ and the Children’s Ministry adopted the name, Mighty Sparks. Since then, more youths and children have been added to our church. On Jan 2010, we have a record of 42 youths and 32 children.
We are also thankful for Peter Lye and Lucy Ng who join us on staff in the beginning of 2007 and 2008 respectively. Peter is our ministry worker and Lucy is our Administrative Assistant.
During the past 7 years, we have made mission trips to Myanmar, Indonesia, Philippines and East Timor, organized National Day Observance at our church and Christmas Parties for Compassvale Haven Residents’ Committee in Sengkang. We pray that these ‘seed ministries’ will grow as the church grows numerically and spiritually.
Our Praying, Healing & Deliverance Ministry has risen to a new level when we gain insights into the roots of diseases through the ministry of ‘Be In Health International’. Praise God for the believers who have been set free to walk in newness of life.
ROLC Church is also identified with the ‘Love Singapore Churches’ and we are involved in the projects of ‘Love Singapore’.
We are trusting God for His anointing to do more for Him. Presently, we have almost outgrown the space that we have and God willing, we are trusting God for a new location to birth a new ministry. We want to do God’s Work in God’s Way. We constantly need the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to bring to fruition what He has purposed us to do for Him. We give all glory to God!
